If you’ve not come across Tableday before, the team creates the most beautiful table setting kits for every colour scheme and occasion. And they’ve kindly shared with us some tips on how to create the perfect tablescape this Christmas.

The team itself is made up of Lucy & Margo (L-R), who founded Tableday out of their love for entertaining friends and family. They both found it stupidly difficult and expensive trying to buy all of the accessories needed to lay a beautiful table which is how Tableday was born!

Creating a festive tablescape – more is more!

“Don’t be afraid to load your table to make it feel magical,” explains Margo, who prides herself in her ability to create a Christmas table setting like no other.

“Collect candlesticks from around your home and group them together on your table, tying them together with a matching colour tie(colour candles?). Add tea light holders in amongst taller candle holders to create a twinkling glow all along the table. This will really add some warmth and sparkle on these colder evenings.”

“Paper napkins are also perfect for Christmas,” says Lucy, who is Tableday’s ‘table setter-in-chief’.

“Choosing a paper napkin means you can select your favourite festive pattern, without needing to purchase brand new fabric napkins, as you’ll only be using these once each year.

“Pair these paper napkins with an airlaid napkin, which have a fabric feel to them for a touch of luxury.”

“Ribbon is also an easy way to add a festive touch to your table. Choose a colour that complements your table setting and tie it around the neck of bud vases, the base of candlesticks, or even napkins too!

“I’d also recommend setting your table as early as possible,” explains Margo.“Either on Christmas eve or on Christmas morning, so it can be an enjoyable activity, rather than a stressful task.”

Steps to creating a Christmas table arrangement

Margo and Lucy will be taking you through a step-by-step guide on how to create the perfect Christmas table arrangement, so you can impress your guests around the dinner table.

Step 1 – Choose your colour scheme

Firstly, choose your preferred colour scheme, and one that compliments your kitchen design. Since we’re talking Christmas, perhaps go for a gold, silver or a neutral tone to work with first. Ideally, you’d like to choose a colour which matches the decor in the room or even your Christmas tree for example. This will create a consistent look throughout your home and ensure there is no clashing of colours.

Step 2 – Choose your accent colour

Next, it’s time to choose an accent colour. You could go with more traditional colours such as red and green, or perhaps you could try something a little different like a deep navy blue; as you can see in our Silent Night kit we’ve done just that!

These accent colours can be used for the paper napkins, for the ribbons around the bud vases and for the candles for example.

Step 3 – Creating the perfect centrepiece

The eye is typically drawn to the centre of the table, so we need to make sure we make an impact with our centrepiece.

Start by rolling out a table runner, this will be what your centrepiece will sit on. Make sure the table runner is either the main colour from your scheme (for example gold) or your accent colour (for example navy).

For the centrepiece itself, you could go for one major piece or, as we like to do here at Tableday, you can choose several pieces which balance each other out.

We typically use candlesticks, fresh evergreen foliage, pine cones, tiny bottle brush trees and bud vases filled with festive arrangements when it comes to our Christmas tablescape.

Step 4 – It’s time for the placemats & charger plates

Placemats and charger plates not only make the occasion feel super special, but they also help protect from any spills too! A placemat that matches your colour scheme is a must, it helps tie everything together nicely.

Step 5 – Folding the napkins

If there’s one golden piece of advice from us, always use napkin rings! Folding napkins can be rather time consuming and it can be really tricky sometimes to get the desired look you might want.

With a napkin ring, you simply layer the two napkins (both paper and airlaid) over one another, pulling the ring through to keep them in place.

As well as a napkin ring, you can also decorate your napkin with a little something on top, like a berry pick or some cotton heads to add extra layers.

Step 6 – Finish the table off with polishing and place cards

Make sure you’ve polished all of your cutlery and glasses, so they add to the overall twinkle on your table. We’ve actually got the perfect hack that’ll ensure your glassware is super shiny! You can find it over on our Instagram.

Once everything is gleaming, the final finishing touch is putting the place cards down for each guest. We love to add an extra little mini tree or bauble next to each place card as it just adds to the overall look and feel.
